Q1: Is every cough a sign of TB?
No, not every cough is TB. However, if a cough persists for more than two weeks, it should not be ignored and medical evaluation is essential.

Q2: What are the main symptoms of TB?
Common symptoms of Pulmunary( Lung) TB include persistent cough, sputum production, blood in sputum, chest pain, shortness of breath, evening fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, and night sweats.

Q3: Why do people often delay testing?
Many people assume that a cough is due to a common cold and rely on home remedies or nearby unqualified quacks which leads to delay in proper diagnosis.

Q4:Is TB diagnosis and treatment expensive?
No. Under the Govt. National TB Elimination Programme, TB diagnosis and treatment are completely free. This includes modern diagnostic facilities such as CBNAAT/Truenat, X-ray, and ultrasound etc

Q5: Who are “missing TB patients”?
These are individuals who do not get tested or fail to reach healthcare services. In early stages, many may be asymptomatic, especially high-risk groups such as close contacts of TB patients, people with diabetes, HIV, those on dialysis, chronic smokers, substance users, the elderly, and healthcare workers.
To identify such cases, the government has initiated 100 days active screening under targeted campaigns.

Q6: Why is timely diagnosis important?
Early diagnosis and treatment can lead to complete cure and prevent the spread of infection to others.

Q7: What precautions should the general public take?
If cough persists for a long duration or with other symptoms, get tested promptly and do not discontinue treatment midway.

Q8: How can transmission be prevented?
Patients with pulmonary TB should wear masks and avoid spitting in public places. At home, sputum should be collected in a covered metal container, boiled with water for at least 15 minutes, and then safely disposed of.
