2nd Battalion NDRF Conducts Large-Scale Plantation Drive on World Environment Day

Kolkata, 5th June 2026: On the occasion of World Environment Day, 2nd Battalion NDRF conducted an extensive plantation drive across Battalion Headquarters and all deployed Regional Response Centres, RRCs. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from officers, rescuers and families, including young children, united by a shared commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. The event reflected the NDRF fraternity’s collective resolve to contribute meaningfully towards a greener, cleaner and healthier future.

As part of the drive, more than 2,000 saplings of indigenous and environment-friendly species were planted at designated locations. The activity aimed to promote environmental awareness and enhance green cover within NDRF establishments. The participation of children alongside their parents added a special dimension, fostering environmental responsibility in the younger generation and reinforcing that protecting nature is a collective duty.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Manish Ranjan, Commandant, 2nd Battalion NDRF, highlighted the vital role of trees in mitigating climate change, conserving biodiversity, and ensuring ecological balance. He emphasized that environmental stewardship is integral to disaster risk reduction and community resilience. Through this plantation drive, 2nd Battalion NDRF reaffirmed its commitment not only to saving lives during disasters but also to promoting environmental sustainability and responsible citizenship.

The drive concluded with a pledge by all participants to nurture the saplings and continue supporting initiatives for a cleaner, greener and more sustainable planet.
